The Rebound

“And I mean that, Abby. Every day. Every moment, no matter how hard I tried not to. I can’t bear the thought of you going back to him. Of you being with anyone but me. And I know how that sounds and I know it’s selfish and I know you’re not owned by anyone but I love you. I love you and I’m sorry I didn’t tell you before.”

Taking place all the way across the pond, our story starts with our main character Abby flying back home to Ireland from New York after her company goes bankrupt and she losses her job. After a long day of travel and time changes, it’s just her luck that the bus she needs to catch isn’t running that day…

When a kind stranger, Luke, offers to give her a ride, she reluctantly accepts. But the awkward banter quickly turns to flirting when they realize they are both attracted to each other. It’s not until the next day when the same stranger knocks on the front door of Abby’s childhood home that she figures out he wasn’t a stranger at all, but that her and Luke were classmates growing up.

What I loved about this book was the real life drama. From breakups, to trying to start a family and tense relationships, we see it all. Our characters have real fears and emotions that dictate their every move. As each chapter went by, we saw them grow and change the way they see things.

Another thing I love about this book was the fact that the relationships weren’t easy. There was no magical moment or perfect day that had them seeing with heart eyes. There were small moments where you could see that spark, but there were also fights and hard conversations.

The only thing left to say is to go read it. This cute romance book hooked me from the start and I couldn’t get enough. While I already miss this new book couple, I am excited to see more from this author Catherine Walsh!
